Course, clubhouse, food and beverage, and member events. The exposure stack is broader than most agents realize.
Golf courses and country clubs combine recreational liability, premises exposure, food and beverage operations, equipment, employees, member events, and the unique risks of golf itself. The right program needs to address all of it — not just write it as a generic recreational risk.
Most golf course programs aren’t underpriced. They’re under-built. Errant ball liability sublimits, missing liquor liability for events and clubhouse service, inadequate equipment coverage on a maintenance fleet that’s grown, sublimited employment practices coverage on a high-turnover seasonal workforce — these are the gaps that don’t show up until a claim does.
At Avanti Group, we run a Business Risk Diagnostic™ before we build any golf course or country club submission. We map your course, your clubhouse, your operations, your events calendar, and your specific exposures — and structure a program that fits the operation.
Who We Work With
We place programs for golf and club operators across Iowa and the Midwest, including:
- Private member country clubs
- Public and semi-private golf courses
- Resort and destination golf properties
- Municipal courses and city-owned facilities
- Driving ranges and practice facilities
- Mini golf and family entertainment courses
- Golf academies and instruction operations
The Coverage Lines That Matter Most
A complete club program is layered across several lines. The components we evaluate and place include:
- General Liability — including errant golf ball, slip-and-fall, and on-course injury exposure
- Property Insurance — clubhouse, maintenance facility, irrigation, cart fleet, and pro shop inventory
- Liquor Liability — for clubhouse service, events, and tournament hosting
- Crime & Fidelity — for cash-handling, member fees, and inventory exposure
- D&O — for member-elected boards and management committees
- Workers’ Compensation — for greenkeepers, clubhouse, food and beverage, and pro shop staff
- Inland Marine — for maintenance equipment, mowers, and golf cart fleets
- Cyber Liability — for member data, point-of-sale systems, and online tee time platforms
- Special Events & Tournament Coverage — for member events, charity outings, and outside tournaments
The Risks Most Club Programs Miss
Errant ball liability is frequently sublimited. Errant balls causing property damage to neighboring homes, vehicles, or persons are one of the most predictable golf course claims. The limit and the language need to match actual course design and proximity exposure.
Liquor liability is undersized for events. Tournaments, weddings, and member events with significant alcohol service expose the club to dram shop and host liquor claims. Most programs carry limits set against day-to-day clubhouse service, not the major events.
D&O for member-elected boards is often missing. Board decisions on assessments, membership, and operational matters can produce member or third-party claims. Without dedicated D&O, those defense costs come out of operating budget.
Equipment schedules don’t keep pace. Maintenance fleets, cart fleets, and pro shop inventory grow over time, and the inland marine schedule needs to grow with them. We update schedules regularly.
How to Get Started
Golf course and club insurance isn’t a commodity product. The right program depends on your operation, your facilities, your events, and your member or guest profile. We need to understand your club before we can build the right program for it.
