Motorcycle Insurance

Two wheels carry their own risk profile. Generic auto endorsements don’t cover it.

Motorcycle insurance is its own specialty. Bodily injury exposure is severe, custom equipment values are routinely understated, accessory and gear coverage is sublimited or missing, and the seasonal use pattern creates unique premium and lay-up considerations. The right program reflects how you ride, what you ride, and the fact that motorcycle claims tend to involve serious injury.

Most motorcycle programs aren’t underpriced. They’re under-built. Liability limits set against state minimums, missing or sublimited custom parts and equipment coverage, no roadside or towing for breakdowns, no rider-down medical, and inadequate uninsured motorist coverage in a market where the at-fault driver often doesn’t carry enough — these are the gaps that don’t show up until after a serious accident.

At Avanti Group, we run a Residential Risk Audit™ before we recommend any motorcycle program. We map your bike, your usage, your storage, and your specific exposures — and structure coverage that protects both the rider and the asset.

Who We Work With

We place motorcycle coverage for riders across Iowa and the Midwest, including:

  • Cruisers, touring bikes, and baggers
  • Sportbikes and performance motorcycles
  • Adventure and dual-sport bikes
  • Custom and rebuilt motorcycles with significant aftermarket modifications
  • Vintage and collector motorcycles
  • Three-wheelers and trikes
  • Multi-bike collectors and serious enthusiasts

The Coverage Lines That Matter Most

A complete motorcycle program covers more than basic liability. The components we evaluate include:

  • Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability — with limits matched to assets and umbrella requirements
  • Collision & Comprehensive — physical damage coverage with appropriate deductibles
  • Custom Parts & Equipment — coverage for aftermarket modifications above the base sublimit
  • Riding Gear & Accessories — helmets, leathers, communication gear, and personal effects
  • Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist — critical given the severity profile of motorcycle claims
  • Medical Payments — medical expenses for the rider and passenger
  • Roadside Assistance & Towing — for breakdowns and recovery
  • Lay-Up & Storage Provisions — reduced premium during seasonal storage with continued physical damage coverage

What Most Motorcycle Programs Get Wrong

Liability limits are too low. Motorcycle accidents tend to produce serious injury claims that exhaust low limits quickly. We benchmark limits against assets and the umbrella requirement, not state minimums.

Custom parts coverage is sublimited. Most policies cap aftermarket parts and accessories at $1,000 to $3,000. Riders with significant modifications need that limit raised — or specifically scheduled.

Uninsured motorist coverage is undersized. The at-fault driver in a motorcycle claim often doesn’t carry adequate limits. UM/UIM at the same level as your bodily injury limit is essential.

Riding gear is uncovered. Helmets, jackets, communication systems, and other gear can total thousands of dollars. Most policies provide minimal coverage for this without specific scheduling.
