Home Healthcare Insurance

Care happens in patients’ homes. Your program needs to follow your team there.

Home healthcare and home care agencies operate in one of the most exposure-rich corners of the healthcare industry. Your team enters patients’ homes — uncontrolled environments where slip-and-fall, theft allegations, medication errors, and abuse and neglect claims can arise without warning. The right program needs to address professional liability for caregivers, premises exposure across countless patient locations, employment risk in a high-turnover workforce, and HIPAA compliance.

Most home healthcare programs aren’t underpriced. They’re under-built. Inadequate professional liability for in-home care, missing or sublimited abuse and molestation coverage, no cyber coverage for HIPAA-protected patient data, and confused workers’ comp exposure for caregivers driving between patients — these gaps are common in older programs.

At Avanti Group, we run a Business Risk Diagnostic™ before we build any home healthcare submission. We map your services, your caregiver structure, your patient base, and your specific exposures — and structure a program that follows your team into patients’ homes.

Who We Work With

We place programs for home-based care operators across Iowa and the Midwest, including:

  • Skilled home health agencies (Medicare-certified)
  • Hospice and palliative care providers
  • Personal care and home care agencies (non-medical)
  • Private duty nursing operations
  • Home infusion and IV therapy providers
  • Therapy services in the home (PT, OT, speech)
  • Companion care and senior support agencies
  • Specialty pediatric and complex-care home health

The Coverage Lines That Matter Most

A complete home healthcare program is built across multiple specialized lines. The components we evaluate and place include:

  • Professional Liability — for caregivers, clinicians, and the agency itself
  • General Liability — premises and operations including in-home patient locations
  • Abuse & Molestation Coverage — critical for any agency working with vulnerable populations
  • Cyber Liability — HIPAA breach response, regulatory defense, and patient data exposure
  • Workers’ Compensation — for caregivers, including vehicle-use exposure between patient visits
  • Hired & Non-Owned Auto — for caregivers driving personal vehicles between patients
  • Property Insurance — for office locations, equipment, and supplies
  • EPLI — for the high-turnover workforce typical of the industry
  • Crime & Fidelity — theft and dishonesty exposure given access to patient homes

The Risks Most Home Healthcare Programs Miss

Abuse and molestation coverage is frequently inadequate. Allegations of neglect, abuse, or financial exploitation against vulnerable elderly or disabled patients are some of the highest-severity claims in the industry. Many policies sublimit this dramatically or exclude it entirely.

Cyber and HIPAA exposure is underestimated. Home health agencies handle patient PHI across mobile devices, EHR platforms, and personal vehicles. A breach response under HIPAA can run into six and seven figures. Cyber coverage that doesn’t include regulatory defense is incomplete.

Hired and non-owned auto is routinely missing. Caregivers driving personal vehicles between patient homes create commercial auto exposure for the agency. Without HNOA coverage, an at-fault accident on the way to a patient can fall on the agency without coverage.

Workers’ comp class codes for caregivers are often wrong. Field caregivers carry different exposure than office staff, and misclassification distorts both premium and the experience modification factor. We audit class codes specifically.
